Louis Horschel is the pilot of the famous, Mad Max, a mustang airplane. He joined me to share some knowledge about these types of aircrafts and how they were utilized in World War II. Recently, he was certified to do aerial stunts and, now, does airshows all over the country.
Did you know that many of these aircrafts were built by Curtiss Air in my hometown of Buffalo, NY? It’s so awesome to learn that! By the end of World War II, it was the largest aircraft manufacturer in the United States. Isn’t that crazy?! They supplied who aircraft in large numbers to the U.S. Armed Forces during this time of war.
Horschel started flying with his dad as a teenager on a small airfield. His Dad was a mechanic in World War II and, after coming home, chose to use his GI Bill to get his pilots license and shared that talent with Louis.
I don’t know if you know this, but we had something in common! My dad was also in World War II as a pilot so I have always had a passion for aircrafts. Louis even took me on a flight around the airfield so I could experience Mad Max for myself. It was such an amazing experience.
